Evaluate a Python backend module

Use the managed CPython-WASI pipeline while accounting for Preview compatibility limits.

Last updated 2026-08-07

What you'll achieve

  • Test Python logic against the BlinkHost ABI
  • Identify incompatible packages before release
  • Measure cold-start and memory behavior

Preview status

Python modules are functional Production Preview. The build and artifact lifecycle is production-controlled, but package compatibility, binary extensions, startup time, and memory use are narrower than a conventional Linux Python service.

Evaluate safely

Create a Python module from Backend. Begin with the generated standard-library scaffold. Add one dependency at a time and build after each change. Avoid packages that require unsupported native extensions, subprocesses, arbitrary filesystem access, or network installation during the build.

import blinkhost

blinkhost.respond(
    r'{"status":200,"headers":{"content-type":"application/json"},"body":"{\"message\":\"Hello from BlinkHost Python\"}"}'
)

Expected result: the module returns status 200 and {"message":"Hello from BlinkHost Python"}.

Verify before production use

Confirm the build is validated and signed, exercise the module's success and failure paths, and inspect measured latency and memory behavior. Keep a Rust or Go path available for latency-sensitive or compatibility-heavy modules until Python reaches GA for that workload.
